Coaching youth football & cheer is a fun, challenging, and an absolute amazing experience.  Seeing kids progress throughout the season as athletes & individuals is the most satisfying element.  Being a youth coach comes along with many important responsibilities. As a youth coach, you are obligated to teach kids proper & safe play techniques. You must understand as a youth coach that a lot of kids will look up to you. Your atheletes will be a direct reflection of how you coach them.  Coaches must realize that there is more to the sport than just winning.  Spencerport Jr Rangers takes this aspect very seriously, each child has the right to equal attention & support from their coaching staff. Coaching is about practicing & teaching your athletes the traits that will be needed to be successful throughout their life.

Coaching Expectations

  • Coaches are selected following interviews with Board Members (generally held early spring)
  • Coaches are expected to attend all off-season and in-season coaches meetings. Notification to the Football/Cheer coordinator is expected if you can't attend a meeting.
  • Football Coaches are expected to follow the Organizations Offense and Defense systems. No Exceptions.
  • Coaches are expected to help with Equipment/Uniform handouts.
  • Coaches are expected to attend all practices/games/competitions except due to an extreme family emergency; exceptions to this must be reviewed with your respective coordinator as early as possible
  • Coaches are required to be certified with USA Football/NYSCA Cheerleading.  This is free to you but will require 4-5 hours of your time in the off-season. This must be completed before equipment/uniform handouts.
  • Coaches are expected to be CPR certified. If you are already certified, please provide a copy of your card when filling out this form. If you need certification, just say no and we will provide all coaches a chance for CPR certification in the summer (prior to the season starting).
  • If selected as a Coach, you will have fulfilled your families volunteer spots and do not have to sign up for additional volunteer spots unless you really want to!
  • We understand that as a volunteer most of our coaches prefer to coach on a squad where their kid is playing, we cannot guarantee that as each season we have a wide variety of coaching needs however we will do our best to accommodate your first or second choice request in squad assignments.
